What Is In Your Cup?

It has been a long time since I have sat still.  This morning as I filled a cup with my daily health drink, I felt the Lord said, “The cup must sit still to fill it overflowing.  Have you ever tried to fill a cup on the move?”

I realized there have been few times, over the past months, that I have sat still for very long during my daily devotion.  I have been too busy saving the world.  How do you do that without strategizing with your Superior Officer?

Oh, my heart was right, but my motives were wrong.  Thank God we are under His grace.  Now, as I sit at His feet, He gently speaks to my heart.  He loves us despite our actions.  Some of us get a little full of ourselves, and run off on a tangent, or am I the only one?  He shows us a great idea, and we take the rope and run.  We have a good heart, but that flesh within distorts the motives. It is not like we strategize and determine to do evil. We are just deceived. Instead of keeping our eyes on the prize, we listen to the lies. We lose sight of who we are working for. Are we determined to fulfill His plan or has our desire now become to be recognized, accepted, and approved of?  But, it is not about us.  It is about obeying God’s commands, keeping our eyes on Him and His agenda before us, and trusting Him to know what is best.  We must consider ourselves like a cup, and if we sit still, He will fill us overflowing with His wisdom (word), knowledge (power), and understanding (love).  We are so blessed to be chosen to experience an intimate relationship with our Father in Heaven.  He promised if we seek Him, we will find Him; if we knock, the door will open; if we ask, we shall receive.1 Just be still and listen. We will be as a tree beside the water.  Our roots will grow deep with His word.  We will flourish and grow with His power, our leaves will not wither, and whatever we do will prosper.2

Sometimes we fill ourselves with all the wrong things and then, wonder why He has to wring us out. What are you filling yourself with?

My brother, PT, sent this interesting Indian story about two wolves: One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then, asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

What we focus on is what we become. Focus on the Word, and become a vessel for Him to work through. Fill yourself to overflowing, and then, speak life about yourself and those around you.  Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.3 It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a man. It is what comes out of the mouth that defiles a man.4

What our mouth speaks, our ears hear, our brain registers, and our body receives.

Dream Big! We have a Big God. He is limitless so don’t limit Him. Don’t talk about how big your circumstances are. Tell your circumstances how big your God is.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and things shall be added to you.5

He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.6

Expect Great Things,
